FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about SpecTrace.

How is SpecTrace different from Garage61?

They solve different problems. Garage61 is excellent for deep telemetry analysis and setup-focused improvement. SpecTrace is focused on organizing team qualifying and practice workflows for asynchronous use.

Focus Garage61 SpecTrace
Primary goal Telemetry insights, setup development Team session coordination and leaderboard flow
Session format Personal or comparative analysis Asynchronous qualifying and practice sessions
Team operations Indirect Built for team workflows, seasons, and shared sessions
Session coordination Telemetry review after the run Shared async sessions, live rankings, and team workflow
How does SpecTrace help avoid iRacing hosted-session costs? +

For async qualifying/practice workflows, teams can run through iRacing Test Drive instead of spinning up hosted servers for each block. Since hosted sessions are often around $0.50 per hour, this can reduce recurring costs significantly for routine team sessions.

What is SpecTrace best used for? +

SpecTrace is best for async team qualifying and practice. Create sessions, set rules, let drivers run when available, and keep a single live leaderboard for the whole team.

Do all team members need to be online at the same time? +

No. Sessions are asynchronous by design. Drivers can run at different times and still contribute to the same session leaderboard.

Does SpecTrace replace telemetry analysis tools? +

Not directly. Many teams use SpecTrace for organized session flow and rankings, and separate telemetry tools for deep lap and setup analysis.

What do we need to run it? +

You need the SpecTrace web app and the telemetry client on the driving machine. Once connected, lap data is captured and posted to your team session automatically.

Why does Windows warn that the telemetry client is not trusted? +

The telemetry client is not signed yet. Windows will show a prompt that the app is not trusted when you run it.
